![]() The animal will be able to sit up, run, jump, and engage in normal cat behavior.Reconstructing the behavior of extinct species is challenging, particularly for those with no living analogues. Although the cat may have a mechanical lameness and the affected limb may be a little shorter after the operation, the leg will have an almost normal range of motion and excellent function. The muscles that normally hold those components of the hip will essentially continue to do their job, but without the painful bone-on-bone contact. Krotscheck points out, “You can just remove the femoral head-the ball part of the hip’s ball-and-socket joint-and you do not replace it. One option, for example, is a so-called micro total hip replacement, in which the hip joint is removed and replaced with an artificial device. Surgical options are also available to relieve advanced cases of hip dysplasia. Try to get the animal to jump up on a counter to get its food, for example, or hide the food under a sofa so that it has to crouch in order to find it.” Also, she says, a veterinarian may recommend the use of certain anti-inflammatory drugs as well as dietary supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin, compounds that may help maintain the strength of an animal’s connective tissues. “Make sure that your cat is not overweight,” advises Ursula Krotscheck, DVM, assistant professor of small animal surgery at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, “and encourage exercising to keep the hip muscles strong. Options are limited when it comes to preventing or treating feline hip dysplasia. A definitive diagnosis of the condition can be achieved by an x-ray of an apparently painful hip joint. For now, however, veterinarians generally agree that the only way to prevent hip dysplasia would be to avoid the breeding of cats that are thought to be genetically predisposed to the condition.Ĭlinical signs of feline hip dysplasia include limping or other apparent difficulties in walking, avoidance of physical activity, expression of pain if the hip is touched, and persistent licking or chewing at the hip area. ![]() ![]() Other factors appear to play a causative role in the development of the disability it is believed, for example, that obesity significantly increases the pressure on the hip’s supporting structures and may therefore contribute to excessive wear and tear on the joint. In addition, the constant trauma is likely to eventually foster osteoarthritis, a condition marked by the gradual destruction of cartilage, the rubbery tissue that normally serves to cushion the bone ends.Ī specific cause of feline hip dysplasia has not been identified, although the condition is widely thought to have a genetic component, since it seems to be more prevalent in certain breeds, such as Maine Coons. Over time, the constant wear and tear causes the acetabulum to become shallow and the femoral head to become worn, flattened, and misshapen, resulting in an incapacitating looseness of the entire joint. This partial dislocation, called subluxation, causes the femoral head and the acetabulum to knock and grind against each other. In a cat with hip dysplasia, the ball and socket are misaligned and loose, which prevents the femoral head from moving smoothly. In a normally formed animal, the femoral head, while fitting snugly within the acetabulum, is free enough to glide and partially rotate to allow a cat to lie down, stand up, climb trees, chase after mice, and so forth. In this case, the “ball” is the knobby top end (femoral head) of the thigh bone, while the “socket” is a cup-shaped cavity (acetabulum) located at the lower end of the hip bone. The condition is a genetically inherited malformation of the ball-and-socket joint that connects a cat’s thigh bone (femur) to its hip. But cat owners should nevertheless be aware of its clinical signs and the ways in which the disability can be managed if it should occur. Compared to its occurrence in dogs and in humans, the condition is rare in felines. Among the various physical disorders that can compromise a cat’s ability to move freely about its environment is a painful orthopedic disorder called hip dysplasia (after the Greek word for “malformation”). ![]() In the example below (and the previous one) I have highlighted the tiles that are free. Yeah sure more might be what I want, but is that actually what I need? Plus for plugins you always have to consider the want and need. Making this map in Ace or MV would have been a pain in the butt and you would either have to create a lot of "special" tiles, use tons of events or utilize plugins, in MZ it was a little editing (or not even that anymore, you can grab the edited thing in my thread) and after that you are all good setting it up in the editor without any needed events. Yes, the RTP don't have them as is, but the 4 layers and transparent autotiles make really pretty water setups possible that are a lot of fuzz to make in VX - MV, allow you to use rounded cliffs a lot more easily and so on. Given how much time I spend on mapping and creating locations, that is a massive factor, and it gets me to the maps I want faster than with parallaxing and with a lot less fuss when setting up tiles (having to make specific tiles where something is already on a table as I do not have enough layers etc.). ![]() MZ brought - for me - the option to make pretty maps without too much stress and having to parallax. I personally would value the 4 mapping layers over the range of plugins, especially for what I am doing with the engine. ![]() Though it depends on what you are planning to do. RPGVXAce and RPGMV are very similar to one another, with the latter being a big technical shift from Ruby to JS. RPG2003, XP and VX are messengers of damnation, especially RPG2003 is a thing for nostalgists and experts only. RPG2000 is the most perfectly rounded, well thought out product, but also nothing too special at all. Of course, nobody knows for sure yet how it will be. If you still have some time to wait and the following sounds interesting to you, there's a new spinoff-product said to release this year (RPG Maker Unite) that will run as a big plugin inside Unity. So my suggestion obviously is RPGMZ all the way, even more if it ever would get the better autotiles-format back (from 2000/XP), that's one of very few last things missing. I'm never making up advice based on how much material or effort-skipping code free to copy is out there. (The icon with the multi-colored shapes on the top bar).Honestly though I'm not using it myself, there are no reasons to not just recommend RPGMZ (based on its current state of (updated) features) to newcomers if what you wanna start developing games with is gonna have to be a product of this software-series. It contains one "Ground" Level, referred to as page A. So, you couldn't use some tiles from the "Dungeon" tileset, and some from the "Town" tileset on a single map. For example, in RM03 (Rpg Maker 2003 edition) there is a "Town" tileset, and a "Dungeon" tileset. When I say "previous RM software can use multiple tilesets." I mean that they have several groups of tiles that go together, and you can use one at a time. For and example, a B level tile might be a cupboard, that would sit on top of an A level tile, like a floor. These are often referred to as "A" and "B" levels. There are two different types of tiles in a tileset, Below, and Character level. A tileset is a group of "tiles" (or drag-on squares) that an RM software can work with. Unlike previous RM software, RMVX (Rpg Maker Vista&XP edition) only allows you to use one tileset. Before we get started, let's talk about the tile system in VX. I am surprised that many people don't know how to import tiles into "Tile E" in Rpg maker VX. ![]() This planner is very goals-focused, and you start each month by writing your goals for the coming weeks. The above methods are recommended for deaf dogs since they have a higher success rate. Are vibration collars good for deaf dogs? Instead, you can use a command to get him to do something, show him one for “good boy,” or something similar. You can stop flashing or treating when your dog gets the hang of it. Over time, your dog will start to check in by looking at you regularly to see if you need anything. You’ll need to do this regularly, so they start to pair the action of looking at you with a reward. Give them the prompt and then when they look at you (the end goal), use the flashlight to reward them or give them a treat. This is a routine or habit you can teach your dog using a flashlight or vibration communication method we mentioned earlier. This is what we called check-in behavior above. We talked about how to call your dog above using one of those methods, but is there a way to get your dog to look at you? Yes, actually. Getting your dog’s attention is going to be vital in getting them to listen to you (no pun intended). How do you train a deaf dog to look at you? Deaf dogs have heightened senses in other areas, too, allowing them to use eye contact and sensation efficiently and effectively. The other main communication method is direct eye contact! This is called “check-in” behavior, which we’ll discuss next. Your dog won’t know the difference, after all. These could be as detailed as American Sign Language (ASL) or as simple as hand gestures that you make up. The main communication with deaf dogs involves touch and physical motions. How do people communicate with deaf dogs? At that point, the whistle will stop working, and it’ll cause confusion for your dog. If a dog is slowly losing its hearing instead of dealing with total deafness, it isn’t wise to rely on the whistle since your dog will more than likely lose the remainder of their hearing. Any command you give your dog should follow this hand signal for your dog’s name. For example, instead of “pay attention,” you can make up a hand signal that means their name! This will replace it and also personalize it for your dog. Using one of the methods above, you can combine it with a hand signal that they’ll learn to be their name. Giving them a command directly after helps them to understand the attention-seeking motion is to deliberately get them to pay attention. Whatever choice feels right for you, ensure that you always follow it up with a command that you choose for “pay attention.” You don’t want to use one of these choices and then confuse your dog about why you did it. Remember to give them a “pay attention” command A light but firm tap on your dog’s rear end should be enough. This is a great one for dogs that enjoy being touched, specifically. Whether on a leash or not, you can tap your dog’s rump to do the same thing. The emphasis is to pull gently on the leash in a pattern they recognize! Rely on the rump tap ![]() ![]() Most find that 2 gentle tugs are enough to do just that. If your dog is outside with you and on a leash, you can gently tug on the leash to get them to turn and look at you. Shine it at a location or your dog in a short pattern they’ll associate with paying attention. Use a small one that isn’t so bright it’ll hurt your dog’s eyes. Similar to how you would use a clicker for a hearing dog, a flashlight will become your go-to tool for a deaf dog. Looking at you is the goal of whatever approach you take since these methods replace calling your dog’s name. ![]() Just create enough of a vibration that your dog will sense it and respond by looking at you! You don’t need to jump up and down or knock sharply on anything. The most common way for owners to communicate with deaf dogs is to stomp or tap on something, which will cause a vibration that your dog can feel. This obviously doesn’t work if your dog is deaf! So, as introduced above, here are the main ways to get your dog’s attention: When you are looking to get your dog’s attention, most just yell their name. 13 In general How do you get the attention of a deaf dog? ![]() “It’s really important to start by prepping thicker hair so that the claw clip won’t slip and fall out if the hair itself is too silky and slippery, you will have a much harder time keeping the claw clip in for longer periods of time, as it will easily slip out,” he says.
